  • Every American should support the 1st Amendment. Viewpoint diversity is just as important to American values as classes of ethnic groups and religions. Public schools belong to the community as a whole and books should not be determined by a few individuals or groups.

  • Arming teachers is not the answer to children being murdered in classrooms. If teachers wanted to be law enforcement officers, they would have gone to a police academy. Our nation is facing a critical shortage of highly qualified teachers, arming teachers will not help. The chances of a gun related accident of children will increase if guns are in the classroom. Children are in school, not prison, where it is not appropriate for young children to be in front of armed teachers all day.

  • Choosing the best educational model for individual children is a very difficult and personal choice for families, therefore, I believe in the availability of a wide range of options. I strive to serve on the Charleston County School District Board of Trustees, where shared public dollars should remain in public schools.

  • I do not agree with the cancellation of the AP African American Studies course. I will always advocate for access to an opportunity to a wide variety of educational opportunities for all students.

  • I have been watching these items closely. I would like to better understand how state law/proviso and federal law interact. I hope to learn more about the implications, liabilities, and implementation in our schools.

  • I support the proviso. Overwhelmingly, others do too. As I understand it, districts and schools have until January 2025 to implement the cell phone restriction, which allows time to consider implementation to best meet the spirit of the requirement and serve CCSD students and families.
